It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Wasanti Paranjape on Sunday, September 3, 2023, peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Bhalachandra Paranjape, by 9 years. She was the loving mother of Asha, Manu and Raman, grandmother of Chandrika, Siddharth, Kiran, Meghana, Avnee and Alok and sister of Savita P. Joshi. She will be sorely missed by friends and family, in Canada, India and abroad. We give our heartfelt thanks to Beverly Moriarty, her caregiver. Wasanti was a loving homemaker, a talented musician and involved in volunteer social work. She earned a BSc and an LLB in India, and a MA in Sociology from the University of Alberta. She created and taught a course at the University of Alberta on Vocal Indian Classical Music and was the director of the Indian Music Ensemble there. She wrote a two-part textbook designed for novices to learn how to sing in this genre., She lived in Edmonton for 45 years and loved it there. She grudgingly moved to Guelph in 2006 to be near one of her children.
There will be a funeral service in Guelph, Ontario.
