She shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with her loving husband and best friend, Olof, and together they built a life centered on love and family. Their love remained constant through the years, and Olof rarely missed a day by her side. She was the loving mother of Serge and Tessa (Alan).
She was a proud and loving Oma to Jordan, Quentin (Maddie), and Tara (Rodney), and a great-grandmother to Wesson and Wren. Ina will also be fondly remembered by her extended family in Canada and the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Frans.
Ina loved to laugh and found joy in the quirky and simple things in life. Her family could always count on her, and she was a steady source of love and support. She was an avid reader, always curious and open to learning something new.
She found happiness in having her family all around her, appreciating the forest, enjoying the birds, working in her garden, and relaxing in the quiet of the outdoors—often with a few chipmunks nearby she made sure were well fed.
Her kitchen was a place of comfort and love. Ina made many wonderful meals, but especially her soup—particularly her Dutch soup with little meatballs, which was always everyone’s favorite. This tradition, passed down from her mother, was rooted in caring for and sharing with those she loved.
Ina and Olof shared a full and happy life together, building a new life in Canada centred around their family, with many adventures along the way, including live music, travel, and time spent with great friends and family.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. The chipmunks that visited her over the years will surely miss her too.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at The Village of Riverside Glen (Schlegel Villages) in Guelph, Ontario, for their compassionate and deeply personal care, and for so often going above and beyond in the kindness they showed not just to Ina but the entire family.
A celebration of Ina’s life will be planned and shared at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Ina to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
