Adella Lopez Diaz of Waukegan, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the age of 83. She was surrounded by love, support, faith, and family during her final days, and she is now resting at home with God. Born on December 16, 1938 in Geronimo, TX to Alejo Lopez (deceased)and Socorro (Barron) Lopez (deceased), Adella grew up with 8 siblings. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Cleofas Villalobos, Dionicia Luna, Sister Phyllis Lopez, O.P., and Isabel Hernandez. She is survived by Sister Ellen Mary Lopez, O.P., Joseph Lopez (Mary Alice), Rosie Lopez, and Alice Lopez. She was also a loving mother and is survived by her three children, Ronald Evans (Tracy), Karlene Nyquist (Scott), and Jacquelyn Evans (Ray), along with eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Adella dedicated herself to faith and service both at work and in her personal life. She was a longtime member of the American GI Forum and was a dedicated Catholic parishioner at Most Blessed Trinity, Waukegan, IL and later at Our Lady of Humility, Beach Park, IL. At the age of 56, Adella obtained a Master of Social Work degree in 1995 and worked as a social worker at several agencies to help improve the lives of others including A Safe Place, Lake County Health Department, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and Catholic Charities. She was always willing to help any person or family in need and acted as a personal mentor to several members of her community. Visitation will be held at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL 60031, August 8, 2022, 4pm – 8pm. Memorial service will be held at Most Blessed Trinity, 450 Keller Ave, Waukegan, IL 60085 August 9, 2022 at 10:00am. A private burial will follow. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Diaz family.
