Knowing Ann changed the course of my life.  She and John were faithful visitors of the sick, and I got to know them when they came to visit my grandmother, and later, my grandfather.  In each circumstance, my grandparent was too ill to visit, and I was there alone, so they visited me.  Ann convinced me to join the Waukegan Symphony Chorus, and I did, somewhat ambivalently, unable to say no to Ann. It was one of the best times in my life and I started taking voice lessons at age 34. We sang together throughout the tenure of Dr. Don Horisberger for almost 10 more years. Now I sing with the Chicago Symphony Chorus!  Thank you, Ann.

  So sorry to hear of the loss of your mother.  What a grand lady she was!  I remember spending many weekends back when we were in high school (late 60's/early 70's) at the Hughes house hanging out chatting with both Ann and John.  Both were awesome, caring, God-fearing people with such high integrity.  The world was a better place because of them. Now Heaven is a better place, too.  All of you are in my thoughts and prayers. My sincere prayers and condolences to the Hughes-Johnson family. I had Mrs. Hughes for algebra at West high school. I loved going to her math class.  Years after graduation, I would run into Mrs. Hughes at many different locations, she remembered me by name. Always the sweetest person ever. She will be sadly missed.

I have known Ann for quite a while through the GFWC Tenth District and then with the Lake County Women's Coalition.  She was simply remarkable.  She had southern charm, a bright mind, a kind heart, and a love for life, family and friends.  When she pulled out her calendar, there wasn't an empty day on it.  She was totally involved in life.

I am so very sorry to hear about Mrs Hughes.She was one sweet and kind lady.. I had her for Math my Freshman year at Waukegan West. I was not the best at math but she always took the time to explain things to me so I could understand . Mrs Hughes still kept in touch for many years after school ended. She would see my Mom around town and still remember me and asked how I was doing. She is one in a million.. God has gotten a very  special Angel She has touched so many lives and she will forever be in all of our hearts..Prayers and Sympathy to her family..

Our deepest condolences to the Hughes and Johnson families.  Craig and I saw Ann very recently at Balmoral and were able to visit with Patty, who then came to visit with my Dad there too. Ann was a very devoted and energetic member of so many organizations, not least of which was PEO.  We have many happy memories of her energy and spontaneity. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

Ann was a good friend to my parents and I knew her from her participation in many Waukegan organizations. My condolences to her family.

She was a wonderful teacher but algebra was my worst subject. We were lucky to have her as she was beautiful, sassy, and charming. She was incredibly patient with me and my inability to grasp the subject. My sympathy to her family.

I have many fond memories of Ann on the golf course.  She was a great lady.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

I was a child at First Presbyterian Church when I first met Mrs. Hughes. She was my Sunday School teacher and, later on, my Algebra teacher at Waukegan West High School. She was a gentle woman and an amazing teacher. When I was failing geometry, she spent her lunch hour with me for weeks to make sure I learned the material and passed the class. I needed geometry to get into college, so I don't know where I would have been without her patient help. We exchanged Christmas cards up to last year. I was sorry to hear of her fall and stroke, and now she is no longer with us. Her deep faith should be a comfort to you all. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

What a great lady and awesome teacher. She will forever be my favorite. God Bless.
