Arlene Olga Battisfore, age 88, formerly of Waukegan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at the Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WI, after a lengthy illness. She was born on April 29, 1924, in Kenosha, WI, to her parents Otto and Olga (nee Zander) Lindelof. For the last one-and-a-half years, Arlene resided and received loving care at the Carey Manor Assisted Living Home in Pleasant Prairie, WI. While attending high school in Kenosha, Arlene worked at her parents' restaurant, Lindy's Lunch, on Washington St. in Waukegan, where she met the love of her life, Howard Battisfore. Arlene and Howard were married on February 9, 1943, in St. Louis, MO. The next day, Howard joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, later transferring to the Army in Europe during World War II. Upon his return, Arlene and Howard raised their family of 3 children. Besides being a mother and homemaker, Arlene was employed at the Waukegan News-Sun in the Circulation Department, a job she loved and remained at for many years. Arlene was a decades-long active member of the Waukegan Chapter of the Women of the Moose, where she rose through the ranks and proudly attained the position of Senior Regent. In the years that followed, she also earned recognition for the Women of the Moose Academy of Friendship and the College of Regents. She was also active in the American Legion Homer Dahringer Post Women's Auxiliary, and the Swedish Glee Club. Most recently, she, along with Howard, have been members of the Vintage Auto Group of Kenosha social club. Arlene enjoyed traveling the U.S., especially in making repeat visits to Florida, Colorado and other western states. But her greatest pleasure was found in hosting family gatherings at Christmas and for other important family occasions. Arlene is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Howard; her daughter Linda (Glenn, Sr.) Holmes of The Villages, FL; and sons James (the late Claudette) Battisfore, Sr., of Waukegan and John (Cheryl) Battisfore of Winthrop Harbor, IL. Dear Howard and family, I'm saddened to hear of Arlene's passing. I remember you from when we lived next door to you on Washington Street in the 50's. Linda and I were great friends, and I admired Jimmy's yoyo collection. Arlene was such a nice lady, and we used to try her patience by roller skating around the kitchen table. I'm living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and noticed that Linda is in The Villages. I hope we can get together sometime. You and your family are in my prayers. Penny (Winters) O'Donnell, daughter of Harold and Mildred Winters.
