Artie was born on February 26, 1942, in Chicago, IL to Arthur J. and Marie (nee Rogalski) Untiedt. He grew up in Chicago, graduating from Steinmetz High School (now Steinmetz College Prep) in 1960. He began working for Zenith Electronics shortly before high school ended and then enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1963, where he served his country until 1969.
On September 17, 1966, Artie married the love of his life, Carol (nee Korpolewski). Together, the two raised their family first in Chicago, and then in Schiller Park until 1993 when Artie and Carol settled in Gurnee.
In his downtime, Artie could typically be found at the family’s Pelican Lake home throughout Spring through Fall with both family and friends. Fishing buddies Sal, Artie, and Mike (aka “SAM”) spent as much time out on the lake as they could. Artie enjoyed the outdoors, hunting when fishing wasn’t an option and played baseball in the park leagues as a younger man.
Artie also enjoyed gardening and collected stamps and coins. He was a White Sox fan often cheering on his team with his neighbor.
He was a good husband and father, often helping Carol during her volunteering with the Metropolitan Emergency Support Services (MESS), and supporting the children during sporting and scouting events.
Artie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol Untiedt; his children Mark (Lynn Kaniff) Untiedt and Jacqueline Untiedt, and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur J. and Marie Untiedt, and his sister Arlene Radek.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 1st, from 2:00 PM until a brief service and Time of Sharing at 4:00 PM.
