Born and raised in Barberton, Ohio, Barbara obtained her undergraduate degree from Ohio University and later earned two Master's Degrees in Early Childhood Special Education and School Administration. Barbara devoted her life’s work to influencing the lives of many children and families. She was an elementary school teacher before raising her four children and continued her career as a parent educator, administrator of early childhood special education and a developmental therapist for young children with disabilities. She was admired by her co-workers and loved by the children and families she worked with. Barbara continued to work until shortly before her death and believed that her purpose was to work with children to advance their growth and development.
In addition to impacting the lives of those she worked with, Barbara leaves a legacy of love, traditions and memories for her family. From making apple cider at Thanksgiving, singing “Johnny Appleseed” around the table, always cheering loudly, reading bedtime books to her grandchildren, and fun filled times at the lake. The memories will remain, and she will always be loved dearly.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Kenneth J. Walti; her four children Heather Banks (Tarrence), Todd Walti (Anita), Chris Walti, and Scott Walti (Melissa); her nine grandchildren; and sister Peggy Candage. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert D. and Marjorie (McCormick) Gleichert, her brother Robert J. Gleichert and nephew Raymond L. Candage III.
