

Betty Jean Stickrod, 80, passed away April 15, 2012 peacefully at her home in Waukegan, IL surrounded by family. She was born August 1, 1931 to Loretta and Joseph Golwitzer. She was raised in Dedham, Iowa and was married to Louis E. Stickrod on November 3, 1949. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage prior to his passing six months ago. They lived in Waukegan for 58 years. Betty's work life included many years at local businesses including GBC Binding Corporation, VR Wesson, and ultimately retiring with her husband from Abbott Laboratories in December 1987. Her many activities included being a founding member of St. Dismas Catholic Church where she assisted with the semi-annual rummage sale as long as her health permitted and organized a weekly prayer group that continues to meet, the Waukegan Power Squadron for which she served a term as president of the auxiliary, and Windy City Winnies camping club. In her spare time, Betty loved to cook, bake, crochet, embroider, and create many home decorations. She is survived by her children Sandra (Bob) Lovgren of Waukegan, Gloria (Mike) Patterson of Gurnee, Barbara (Tom) Campanella of Wadsworth, and Randy (Lisa) Stickrod of Kansasville, WI; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald (Carol) of Dedham, Iowa and one sister Burnita Schlicher of Wadsworth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; two sisters, Luella Bedford of Dedham, Iowa and Cyrilla Knobbe of Waukegan; one brother, Joseph (Pat) of Creal Springs, IL. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at St. Dismas Catholic Church, 2600 Sunset Ave, Waukegan, IL 60087 at 10 am with rosary at 8:45 and visitation at 9 am. Burial will be private.
