With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Bonnie Jo (Ray) Tinkes, who passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, just shy of her 88th birthday. Born on October 20, 1937, in Nashville, Arkansas, to Dewel and Inez Ray, Bonnie lived a rich and joyful life that took her from her southern roots to a welcoming home in Wildwood, Illinois.
She was the oldest of six siblings and often took on the role of caretaker early in life, developing the strength, warmth, and compassion that would define her throughout her years. Bonnie shared a beautiful life with her husband, Olen Thomas Tinkes, a dedicated Freemason, whose love and partnership she held close to her heart. Together, they raised a family built on love, laughter, and deep respect. Olen, along with their daughter Retta Lynn Tinkes (Deacy) and their son David William Tinkes, preceded her in death, and she missed them dearly.
She is survived by her son Thomas Ray Tinkes (Cheryl) and her daughter Felicia Lenore Rhodes (Todd), who were her pride and joy. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each a testament to her lasting legacy of warmth, humor, and compassion. Bonnie is also survived by her loving siblings - Allen Ray (Peggy), Roger Ray (Patti), Linda Ray Lefler (Jim), and Barbra Pierce - and was preceded in death by her brother James Mac Ray (Patricia). She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Throughout her life, Bonnie wore many hats - and always with grace. She worked as a realtor with J.C. Forney, helping families find the perfect place to call home. She also enjoyed many years in hospitality, serving as a waitress at the Country Squire in Grayslake and later as a hostess at Somerset Restaurant in Vernon Hills. Her friendliness, humor, and bright smile made her unforgettable to colleagues and customers alike.
Bonnie found deep meaning in community and sisterhood. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society, and the Mermaid Club at the Centre Club, where she loved swimming and spending time with dear friends. Her laughter and generosity made every gathering a little warmer.
Bonnie’s gentle nature, unwavering faith, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She taught those around her to find beauty in small moments — the sparkle of conversation, the comfort of friendship, and the simple joy of being together.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Marsh Funeral Home in Gurnee, Illinois.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Her love remains — in her family, her friends, and in every life she brightened along the way
