

Clifford Logan Phelps, 90, was born in Topeka KS, on September 13, 1921. Clifford came to the Waukegan area in 1939, and lived in the community until his death on January 5, 2012. Clifford married Doris Sacevich in 1942 and served during World War II with the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 in Iceland and England. He was a loyal 301 Teamster member his entire working career, active in the Gurnee VFW Post 3899; serving as Quarter Master for many years, American Legion Post 771 and also a lifetime member of the Waukegan Power Squadron. Cliff joined the Squadron in 1967 and was Commander in 1972, 1973, and 1977. He earned the designation of Jr. Navigator. He and Doris enjoyed many years of boating. The times they spent on their boat were some of the most enjoyable times of their life together. The people they met and the friends they made fulfilled their life and was their passion after their children were grown. Clifford was proceed in death by his wife, Doris in 1988, grandson, Scott Anthony Towery in 1965, nephew Thomas Logan Riley in 2005, and son-in-law Joseph Grahovac Jr. in 2003- Clifford had three sisters and one brother, all deceased. Clifford is survived by four daughters, Toni (Wayne) Towery, Dee (Dick) Crenshaw, Sue (Bill) Koyiades, and Jane Grahovac-Noren; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and two nephews. Friends and family may call on Monday, January 9, at the Marsh Funeral Home of Gurnee, 305 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL, 60031 from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, January 10, from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at the Northshore Gardens of Memories in North Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local VFW Post.
