David Laurence Austin

A memorial visitation for David will be held on Thursday, August 6 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd in Gurnee, IL. A memorial funeral service will be held on Friday, August 7th at 2:00 PM at Community Christian Church, 1970 Riverwoods Rd in Lincolnshire, IL.

David was born in Highland Park Illinois to Dwight and Jeanne Austin and was the eldest of three children. Dave grew up surrounded by friends and family and some of his favorite memories included the family time spent at Shirley Lodge up north.

Dave was a proud Razorback. He attended University of Arkansas where he was able to live his dream of playing football in college. After graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in business, he went on to work at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange as a stock broker for nearly two decades.

Dave was an adventurer and at the same time craved and sought the tranquility in things. He took quite a few trips around the country, skiing and golfing his way through new places. He enjoyed trips with his friends and later trips with his family making sure to share his passions with those who knew him best.

After leaving the business world, Dave, found a new passion: Teaching. He spent his last years as a teachers aide at Viking Middle School where he had even more adventures that he loved to share with his children over a nice dinner from Captain Porky’s before watching an episode of one of his favorite tv shows.

David is survived by his father, Dwight Austin (Sharyn Austin), his brother Robert Austin (Tamara Austin), his sister Susan Short (John Short), his children Lauren, Lindsey, and Andrew Austin, his nephews, Nathan Austin and Noah Short, and his niece Maya Short.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Valeria Norton Austin, his niece Emma Hope Short, his paternal grandparents, Wallis & Virginia Austin, and his maternal grandparents, Laurence & Eleanor Norton.
