He continued this activity after his marriage to Midge, as they traveled to dog shows together, showing Wire Haired Dachshunds and Basset Hounds. They also loved judging dog shows together. Don enjoyed the community aspect of AKC dog clubs, being a life member and past President of the Basset Hound Club of America, past member and President of Chain O’ Lakes Kennel Club, and past member and President of the Fox River Valley Kennel Club. He also enjoyed membership in the Dachshund Club of America and the Afghan Hound Club of America.
Don was an avid sports fan, enjoying all sports preferring college to professional , but above all loving his Iowa Hawkeyes. He held season tickets for the football games for 35 years, and also attended Iowa basketball games when they played locally and watched Iowa wrestling on TV.
