Emmie and her family moved to Illinois at a very young age and planted roots. She attended Zion Benton Township High School until the age of 17.
Emmie joined Ebenzer Baptist Church (Zion, IL) and was baptized at a early age under Reverend Tart.
Although Emmie was never married she loved 2 special men in her life, Maurice Nixon-Rothmaller (Waukegan, IL) and Carlton Daley (North Chicago, IL)
Emmie worked as a CNA for over 20 years of her life at various nursing facilities following in the footsteps of her own mother, she did this part time in conjunction with working at Cherry Electric for over 10 years. In 1987 she went to work for Abbott Laboratories. In 2010, Emmie retired from Abbott Laboratories/Hospira after 23 years of dedicated service. She then just couldn’t not work because she needed to be busy so she came out of retirement and worked for Walmart from 2016-2018 and only left because of her diagnosis.
During Emmie’s journey she was a foster parent from 2013-2016 and had many children in her care during that time.
Emmie was preceded in death by her mother Levertie Ray, stepfather Clifford Ray Sr. and father John Robert Windham Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories her 2 loving daughters: Daughter Pauline (Kamoru) Balogun (Waukegan, IL) and daughter Sherina (Teronda) Norwood (North Chicago, IL); 3 grandchildren: Janeal Caples (Beach Park, IL), Morgan McCullough (Round Lake, IL) and J McCullough (Waukegan, IL): 2 Great Grandchildren: Jaasiel Caples & Noelle Caples (Beach Park, IL): 4 sisters: Willie Mae Smith (Sacramento, CA), Vinnie Ruth (Navarro) Benjamin-Nelson (Woodstock, IL), Lizzie (Eric) Duncan (Beach Park, IL), and Lorraine Quinn (Russellville, AL): 3 brothers: Robert Windom (Union City, TN), Billy Windom (Union City, TN) and Clifford Ray Jr. (Jackson, MS). Her 2 very best friends Bobbie (Andrew) Woodruff and Sherry Knox; Her extended family Vanessa Knox-Harris, Simone Knox and Dior Knox. A host of nieces , nephews, and acquaintances.
