

Genowefa Mika, age 86, of Gurnee passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after a long illness. Genowefa was born on January 25, 1937 in Poland to Jozef and Jozefa (Obral) Wlodek. She married Bernard Mika in 1954 in Poland. Genowefa began working for Carl Buddig and Company in South Holland, IL, in 1987 and was there for over 30 years. She loved her work and was always proud of it. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Harvey, IL. Her religion and faith were very important to her and she passed it down to her family. Genowefa enjoyed gardening and cooking, but especially enjoyed making sure her family was given good advice. She will be remembered for her many qualities, but most of all for her inner strength and resilience, great work ethics, her compassion, capacity for forgiveness, and her unconditional, unreserved love and desire to help others.
Genowefa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2012, four sisters and her brother in Poland.
Genowefa is survived by two children, Ben (Halina) Mika and Elizabeth Mika; four grandchildren, Martin Mika, Peter (Ashley) Mika, Agnes (Daniel) Mika and Katie Mika; her great grandson, Henry Mika; her sister, Danuta, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Genowefa will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (6401 Gages Lake Road, Gurnee, IL 60031) with interment to follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Marsh Funeral Home (305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL) from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Mass.
