Gilbert (Gil) Schlosser of Wadsworth passed away at age 94 on October 4, 2023, in the comforts of his home. Gil is survived by his wife Marian (nee) Corrigan of 73 years, his daughter-in-law Ann Schlosser, his son Dan (Lynn) Schlosser, his daughter Jill (Gary) Hower, and son Jerry (Becky) Schlosser; along with 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Gil enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and served three years. After his discharge, he began working for U.S. Steel in Waukegan and worked there for 33 years until the plant closed. During that time, he spent what little free time he had helping his father on the family farm. He was a life-long resident of Wadsworth and put his love for his family and community first. Gil was instrumental in preventing the annexation of Wadsworth into the City of Waukegan. He and others went throughout the community asking residents for donations to hire an attorney, to prevent the annexation. As a result, the Village of Wadsworth was incorporated in 1962. He served as a Wadsworth Village Trustee for one term and the Wadsworth Village President for 16 years. Gil also served on the Newport Township Volunteer Fire Department for 46 years, 11 of which were as Fire Chief, as well as Board Member of the Wadsworth Community School.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo “Sandy” Schlosser and Janet (nee) Howard; his sisters Hazel Spiers, Lois Crabb and Kay Jansen. His son Gary Schlosser, his son Lon Schlosser, and daughter-in-law Wendy Schlosser.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 North Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL 60031. A private burial will follow.
