Giovanna was born on March 12, 1943 in a small town in Montagano, Italy. She was preceded in death by her husband Stefan Szach. The couple met in her hometown while he was on vacation. Stefan was a Ukrainian immigrant that was forced to leave his country during WWII and after some time settled in Chicago. The couple fell in love and married shortly after on January 12, 1961 in Montagano. Giovanna started working as a seamstress at Hart, Schaffner and Marx when she first arrived in Chicago and then at Zenith for many years. She then followed her passion and became a hairdresser and owned 2 salons. Giovanna was an active individual who loved cruising, shopping and ballroom dancing with her husband every opportunity they had. Her husband was a musician who had his own band and played weddings, church functions and every New Year’s Eve where they both had the time of their lives. Giovanna was a serious Bingo player and looked forward to the weekly events at the local church or VA post. She enjoyed spending time and playing games with her grandchildren. The recent birth of her great grandchild and watching him grow brought added joy and laughter to her life.
Giovanna is survived by her son, Anthony Szach, daughter, Ida (John) Pavlos, two grandchildren, Melissa (Christopher) Morris and Faith Pavlos, her great grandson, Nicholas Morris, two sisters, Carmelina (Aldo) Primiano and Maria (Carmelo) Mordini, and her brother, Antonio (Jane) Remo.
