

Harriet Sutton, born August 8, 1934, of Gurnee, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. The youngest of six children to Sarah (Allen) and Walter Lonergan, Harriet treasured the close relationships and lasting memories she shared with her siblings throughout her life.
Originally from Jacksonville, IL, Harriet graduated from Illinois College and dedicated her career to teaching at St. Patrick’s Grade School, where she inspired generations of students with her warmth and wisdom. Her passion for learning reached well beyond her classroom—she was an avid reader, an accomplished bridge player, a devoted traveler, and a lifelong supporter of the arts. Harriet especially looked forward to the excitement of March Madness each year, as she enjoyed watching college basketball and football. Above all, Harriet cherished time with her family. Whether gathered around the dinner table or exploring new places together, she found joy in every moment spent with those she loved.
In 1958, Harriet married Robert Sutton, the love of her life, and together they built a family filled with laughter and warmth, raising four children. Harriet will be remembered for her uncompromising faith, always believing in the goodness of those around her and encouraging them to be their best.
Harriet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her siblings Meg (Bob) Kaufman, Walt (Carolyn) Lonergan, Sarah (Dick) Dietrich, Jane (Jim) Mlnarik, and Laura Lonergan; and is survived by her children Susan Sutton, Bob Sutton, Sarah (Kit) Hoover, and Amy (Michael) Frisch; and her grandchildren Maddy Hoover, Margaret (Ryan) Schoor and Mary Hoover, Ryan Sutton and Kylie Sutton, and Tyler Frisch; as well as many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.
She will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered for her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering faith, which formed the cornerstone of her life and values.
Visitation will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee, IL on October 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. James Cemetery in Kenosha, WI.
