Harry Thorleif Andersen, BTC, USN Ret, passed away at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL on June 16, 2022 at age 92. Son of Norwegian immigrants, Harry was born on June 9, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to Thorleif C. and Anna L. Andersen. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 1950 retiring as a Chief Petty Officer, after 23 years of service. Upon his navy retirement, he worked for Servicemaster Industries for 20 years as a Plant Operations Manager.
Harry married Nancy Ann Hill in June 1950. Harry's second marriage to Jeanne Berger occurred on May 10, 1969 aboard the USS Plymouth Rock at Little Creek, VA.
Harry was preceded in death by his son Mark T. Andersen, his wife Jeanne Andersen, and step-daughter, Patricia Bonner. He is survived by two sisters Laila (Walter) Kraus of Boyerstown, PA, and Linda (Sid) Nachman of Salt Springs, FL, his brother Lars Andersen of Tonsgerg, Norway, two daughters Judi (Lindsey) Nelson of Woodruff, WI, and Jill (Nicholas) Snarski of Waukegan, IL, son Paul (Colleen) Andersen of Bristol, WI; and his step-children Shirley Maples of Nappanee, IN, Judy Mantell of Mattoon, IL, Emmie (Tim) Hughes of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Fred (Gerri) Bonner of Joliet, IL, and Richard Bonner of Harding, IL; 29 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25, 10:30 AM at Marsh Funeral Home, Gurnee, IL. A private interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Navy Relief Society of Arlington, VA or any veterans charity.
