

Herbert C. DeRue, 86 of Fox Lake, passed away in the early morning Sunday July 31,2011, at Lake Forest Hospital. He was born in Waukegan on January 20, 1925, the son of William and Lillian (Behnke) DeRue. Herb was a 1943 graduate of Waukegan Township High School. He volunteered in the Army Air Corps during World War II, receiving the Victory Medal and American Theater Ribbon. In his early years he worked for Krema Trucking Company. He was futher employed for 30 years for Chicago Title &Trust Company and was a licensed real estate broker and appraiser. He was co-owner of Fisherman Dream in Antioch. He and his wife Dorothy lived in Lake Villa for 40 years, four of those which he served as village trustee. He was a volunteer baseball coach fo Little League at Prince of Peace School. He was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan for 80 years. Herb is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Hagerty), his children, JoAnn Osmond, David(Linda), Rita (Bob) Cote, Donald (Deb), Richard (Kristi) and James (Lin), 14 grandchildren, Colleen, Michael, Stephen, Brian, Brett, Carra, Brenna, Cale, Jenae, Kevin, Amanda, Eric, Stephanie and Jack, and five great- grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Faith,Kwame and Zuri. Also surviving are a brother, Robert (Marsha): a sister -in-law, Monica: and a brother-in-law, Art Rasmussen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lucille (Paul) Brence and Evelyn Rasmussen; brothers, Elmer (Kay), Eugene (Pearl) and William; and son-in-law Timothy Osmond.
His funeral will be Saturday, Aug 6, at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 Cemetery Rd., Gurnee at 10:30 am. Visitation will be Friday, from 4 to 8 pm and again on Saturday, from 9:30 until 10:30 am at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, per Herb's request, all donations should go to the owners of the Chicago Cubs to purchase team players that will win or to a charity of your choice
