John Kurz

John was born on July 10, 1954 in Chicago, IL to John and Elizabeth (Minnick) Kurz. He proudly services his country in the United States Navy for over 9 years, following which he graduated from the College of Lake County, followed by Southern Illinois University. He went on to work at the College of Lake County at the Naval Station for 10 years, followed by Abbott Laboratories as a Quality Tech for 35 years until his retirement.

It was during his time in the Navy that John met the love of his life, Cheryl (Wasson). The two married in 1978 and together raised their two children, Kristel and Joshua.

John was a caring and compassionate person who was a dedicated worker and devoted family man. He enjoyed spending time with his children, either playing catch, swimming, or just talking about their day when they were younger, and catching up over dinner as they grew into adults.

When he wasn’t working, John could be found tooling around with his computer or other electronics, spending time at the casino, or cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks.
