Lionel Lopez

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lionel Lopez on November 21, 2025. Lionel is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nellie and their children Elisa (Isaac), Liana (Takuya), and grandchildren Maritza and Selena, along with his two brothers, Juan and Ruben.

Lionel, a second-generation Puerto Rican, was born in Waukegan, IL and retired from Abbott Laboratories after 33 years of service. He was well known for his love for God, his love for his wife, his family, and, of course, the game of golf. His unwavering faith and kindness created a text ministry that kept him grounded, inspiring those around him. He was a good and faithful servant of God and the best husband, father, and family man, who filled the room with a strong presence of love and a lot of laughter. He fought a good fight, he finished the race, and has remained faithful (2 Tim 4:7).

While we mourn the loss of such an extraordinary presence, the heavens are gaining a devoted love for God. THANK YOU to all for your prayers and the outpouring of love and support. We are blessed to have such a wonderful community.

A visitation will be held on December 2, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Marsh Funeral Home, located at 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031. The funeral service will take place on December 3, 2025, at 10:00 am, also at Marsh Funeral Home.

A committal service will follow at Ascension Cemetery , located at 1920 Buckley Rd, Libertyville, IL 60048.
