

Lolita F. Sayurin, 91, from Waukegan, IL, passed away on March 20, 2013 in the loving comfort and care of her family's home. She was born on December 29, 1921 in Imus, Cavite in the Philippines. She was a member of St. Anastasia Church and the Filipino-American Association of Lake County. Graduating from The National Teachers College in the Philippines, Lolita taught elementary school for many years. She married in 1950 and since her husband, Francisco, was in the U.S. Navy, enjoyed being stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii and Great Lakes, IL. Upon arriving at Great Lakes, Lolita joined the Navy Exchange and worked at the Recruit Training Center Exchange (Bldg. 1111), first as a sales clerk and then as the assistant manager. After transferring to the Naval Training Center Exchange (Bldgs. 111 and 400), she became the customer service supervisor and was bestowed the endearing name of "Granny". Having dedicated 52 years of loyal and unwavering service to the Navy Exchange, Lolita "Granny" was well-loved by many. Lolita loved her family and friends, flowers (roses and orchids), the 'Lawrence Welk Show', Red Lobster restaurant, Gojo's Café, soap operas and shopping - especially at the Navy Exchange. She is survived by her daughters, Pilar Antonina S. Recker (Steven) of Yokosuka, Japan and Eileen S. Paredes (Juan) of Waukegan, IL; her four grandchildren, Samantha, Julia, Francis and Catherine; "adopted son", Joey; sister, Lucy Landicho and brother, Ligorio Fernandez of Imus, Cavite; nieces and nephews, cousins, godchildren, other relatives, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco, of 58 years; parents, Lucas and Antonina Fernandez; and two brothers, Leonardo and Bayani Fernandez. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL from 4 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at St. Anastasia Church 624 Douglas Ave. Waukegan on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. There will also be a visitation before the Mass from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Father Aloysius Funtila officiating. Place of burial will be at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lolita's memory to the American Lung Association . The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Oscar S. Giron, Dr. Mahesh Agarwal and the other doctors, nurses, staff and personnel at Vista Medical Center East, for their genuine care and service.
