
Marcia J. Mitchen (nee Brown), 70, of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Sunday September 11, 2016 at the Highland Park Hospital Hospice. She was born June 5, 1946 in Waukegan and has lived in Gurnee for the past 27 years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit singing in the choir and the Waukegan Symphony Chorus. She had worked at Abbott Labs and the Lake County Clerk's Office and was an active member of the Sassy Sisters. Marcia is survived by her husband Laurence M. Mitchen; her son Christopher (Colleen) Hanson of Evansville, WI; daughter Laurene (Terry) Cantrell (nee Mitchen) of Hamilton, MS; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters Betty Brown of Ashippun, WI and Nancy (Carrel) Carpenter of Sunrise Beach, MO; two brothers-in-law Jack (Joan) Mitchen and Jerry (Fran) Hanson; a sister-in-law Barbara (Bob) Hedges; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ron T. Hanson and her parents Ralph J. and Jane F. Brown; son Eric J. Hanson; brother-in-law Joel R. Mitchen; and a grand niece. A Celebration-of-Life, to remember and honor Marcia will be held at a future date. The cremains will be scattered near one of her favorite places. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that anyone who wishes may make a memorial donation in her name to the American Cancer Society , www.cancer.org or a contribution to any charity they desire.
