
Margaret Ann (McCaughey) Kristan was born October 26, 1924 in Gurnee, where she lived most of her life, and died Friday, August 29, 2014 at her home in Waukegan. Margaret received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Milwaukee State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in Waukegan, first teaching at Lincoln- McAllister (now Carmen-Bruckner) and then Whittier Schools. She retired in 1990 after 23 years of teaching Kindergarten in Gurnee schools. She was preceded in death by her parents Doug and Gertrude McCaughey, husband John Kristan, sister Betty (McCaughey) Kristan, brother John “Jay” McCaughey, beloved brother and sister-in-laws and many dear friends. She is survived by her children John “Doug” Kristan, Edward (Laura) Kristan, Joseph (Vickie) Kristan and Loretta (John) Pable. She leaves her beloved grandchildren Meg, Eddie (Liz), Dan (Heather) and Rob Kristan; J.J., Ben, and Anna Pable and Matthew Vakilynejad to continue her legacy and love of life. She also leaves adored nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, caregivers and students. Visitation will be Monday, September 1, 2014 from 2PM – 6PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road in Gurnee. Family and friends will gather at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Avenue, Waukegan on Tuesday, September 2 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. Margaret was passionate about faith, education, giving to those in need and volunteering time and talent. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to St. Dismas Church, St. Anastasia School, 624 Douglas Avenue, Waukegan, IL 60087 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Il 60601. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to give time and talent to the charitable organization of your choice.
