Marilyn "Ducky" (neeTonigan) Lea, Marilyn "Ducky" (neeTonigan) Age 80, passed away at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL on March 31, 2012 with her devoted children by her side. She was born on February 13, 1932 in Waukegan, IL to Henry and Thelma Tonigan. Marilyn's zest for life and love for family kept her busy with golf, tennis, bridge, and annual Tonigan family reunions. As an avid golfer, Marilyn belonged to women's golf leagues at both Bonnie Brook and Glen Flora golf courses, reaching the pinnacle of Lake County Women's Golf Champion. She passed on to her three children her love for golf. Marilyn was a regular member of weekly bridge clubs, enjoying the time shared with her friends. Marilyn earned a B.A. in mathematics from Lake Forest College where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority. She then attained her master's degree in education from University of Wisconsin before the age of 20. Marilyn taught in the Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Waukegan public school systems, taking a break to raise her three children. For her second profession, Marilyn chose real estate, achieving her broker's license during her 30 year career. She is survived by her two children, daughter Barb Lea and son Mark Lea; three grandchildren, Megan, Kelly and Jennifer; sister Joy Weeks; brother Henry "Hank" Tonigan; sister-in-law Ruth Tonigan; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, William "Billy" Lea, and siblings, Louise and Clay "Bud" Tonigan. In addition, older brother, Dr. Richard "Dick" Tonigan, died just the day before Marilyn, preparing the way for his baby sister's passage. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 3 to 8p.m. and a funeral service and mass will be conducted on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 10 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 9 a.m. at Marsh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, via the family, Barb and Mark Lea. Marilyn will be remembered for her smile, humor, quick wit, and love for all.
