Marlene Abdula Hunt passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, after saying good bye to her family. Marlene was mother to Elisabeth Hunt and Edward Hunt (Lisa); sister to Fred Abdula (Anna Marie); aunt to Linda Considine (James), Patrick Abdula, Michael Abdula, Lisa Abdula, and Paul Frei; and grandmother to Tyler Hunt and Henry Hunt. Marlene was born and raised in Waukegan, and remained in Lake County for most of her life. Always an engaged member of the community, Marlene was active in politics from a young age, working as a volunteer in the election campaign of Thomas Moran as State's Attorney for Lake County in 1956. Marlene's love for her community led her to a career in communications, beginning with her work at WKRS radio in Waukegan and spanning decades as she worked as a senior staff reporter for the Pioneer Press and a freelance reporter for the News-Sun and the Chicago Tribune until her retirement. Marlene was honored to be a Peter Lisagor Award nominee for her work on the series "Lake County: Boom or Bust." Marlene's work experience included time at the Tuberculosis Institute of Chicago and Cook County, Baxter-Travenol, and as a systems analyst for Allstate. She was also a certified financial planner. Marlene's love of Lake County drove her to help people find their homes there, and she worked as a real estate agent for many years. She also donated her time to volunteer for Arden Shore, and to various local projects including creating and saving small neighborhood parks. Services will be held Friday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Warren-Newport Public Library or the charity of your choice . Arrangements were made by Marsh Funeral Home, Gurnee.
