Mary Lu (Hubbard) Cox Mary Lu Cox, age 82, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18th, 2022, with family members by her side. Mary is survived by her husband, Ward, of 62 years; her three sons, Donald (Julie), David (Denise) and Daniel (Gina), seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary was born on October 14th, 1940, to her proud parents Oscar and Leora Hubbard. Mary was the youngest of two children and is survived by her sister Shirley (Albert) Howard. Born in Waukegan, IL, Mary graduated from Waukegan High School in 1958 and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from National College of Education. Mary put her teaching aspersions on hold and dedicated her time to raising her family. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, was very involved in the Woodland Parent/Teachers Association and chaperoned many field trips for her son’s classrooms. Once her youngest son entered grade school, Mary became a 3rd grade teacher at Woodland School. Mary loved teaching and continued to substitute after her retirement. In her youth, she was a proud member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls in which she achieved the high honor of the Grand Cross of Color. Mary was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend to many. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 22nd, 2022, from 1 – 3pm with a gathering to share memories at 3pm, Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL.
