Michael J. OBerto suddenly passed away on Sept. 4, 2025. Born on April 24, 1972 in Waukegan, Illinois to Lois Dalziel (Sponenburg) at Victory Hospital. He is preceded in death by his older brother Tommy OBerto, father William Dalziel and mother Lois Dalziel.
Mike was a talented landscape designer and project manager loved by his clients. His work was his passion and he took it very seriously. His coworkers and laborers enjoyed his ability to speak Spanish and surprised the Hispanic community regularly with his ability to do so. One of his major accomplishments was overseeing the landscape work at AT&T Stadium (Cowboy Stadium) in Texas and many other projects he was so proud of.
From an early age he loved soccer and all things soccer. He was a talented goalie with many commenting he had “cat like” reflexes protecting the goal. His all-time favorite team was Inter-Milan and anyone who knew him would see him in some type of soccer jersey and bright indoor soccer shoes when he wasn’t working. He developed many friendships in the local soccer community and played well into his 40’s. He maintained his best friendship with his childhood friend Rafael Gloria (Melanie) until the day he passed.
His love for his wife and daughter was unmatched. He did everything he could to provide for them and make sure they were happy. He prided himself in protecting them and showing them his love.
He is re-united in heaven with his beloved Leo and Pepper (treasured pets).
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Monica and daughter, Mia. Also, brothers and sisters, Lois Hyde (Mark) of Minnesota, Timmy OBerto of Wisconsin, Jimmy OBerto of North Carolina and Jennifer Dalziel of Illinois along with nephews and nieces, Jason, Jessica, Joey, Abbey, Chris and Corey.
Memorial mass to be held at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Waukegan on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025 at 10:00 am and visitation with friends and family in church basement immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, it is asked to please contribute to the Gofundme fundraiser set up to help Monica & Mia during this most difficult time: https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-mike-oberto-support-his-loved-ones
