

Pastor Henry L. Woods, Sr. made his transition to spend eternity with our Heavenly Father on Monday, May 28, 2018. We rejoice in knowing that he is no longer in pain.
Pastor Woods was born on December 8, 1953 to Monroe and O’neal Woods in Birmingham, Alabama. Pastor Woods was the sixth of eight children and a native of Birmingham, Alabama where he was educated through the Jefferson County and Marengo County School systems.
Pastor Woods confessed a hope in Christ at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama where he served in the Youth Choir. His family later relocated to Demopolis, Alabama where he joined the True Vine Baptist Church and continued to serve faithfully at a young age. It was the year of 1972 when Pastor Woods relocated to Waukegan, IL. He joined Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church in 1985 in North Chicago, IL where he was an ordained Deacon and served as a Vice Chairman. In the year of 1994, he was called into the Ministry; he was licensed and ordained as a Minister of the Gospel by Pastor Clarence Clarke. During his years in the ministry, he rendered service as Youth Ministry Director and Assistant Pastor; each position he served faithfully until being called by God to become the Pastor of the church in August of 2002 and he was installed on October 20, 2002.
Pastor Woods’ education has been through the College of Lake County, McKinley Theological Seminary, Carver Baptist Bible College, National Baptist Convention USA Inc., The Biblical Exposition Conference and various workshops and seminars.
Pastor Woods leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Lisha Woods of Beach Park, IL; two sons, Henry L. Woods, Jr. of Zion, IL; Darrell (Tiffany) Woods of Norwalk, CT; four sisters, Mary Gh’Rael, New York City, NY; Dorothy (Freddie) Armstead,; Pinkie (Lady) Marrow; Marie Woods of Demopolis, AL; two brothers, Therman Woods (Helen Tyler); James Woods of Waukegan, IL; six grandchildren, Kiara Booker, Layka McQuitery, Jason Booker Jr., Amaya Booker, Kemari Woods and Zoe Woods; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Pastor Woods was preceded in death by his grandmother, Agnos (Ms. Nan) Killings; father, Monroe Woods, mother, O’neal Hester Woods; brother, Joe Lee Woods, and a granddaughter, MyeAngel Booker.
A Friday night wake will be held at Christian Valley MB Church on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. and Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of his life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 2, 2018.
