Phillip J. Beetschen, age 93, of Solon Mills, IL. He passed away peacefully at home, with family at his side, on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Born June 17, 1924, in Pekin, IL to Philip F. and Katherine M. (Ames) Beetschen. Phillip's family moved to Zion, IL where he grew up with his 9 brothers and sisters. Phillip was drafted into the US Army in March 1943. He proudly served in the 77th Infantry Division - Statue of Liberty Unit during WWII in the Pacific Theater, until January 1946.
Phillip and Lucille "Mickey" Bollacker were married on August 28, 1948. They made their home initially in Chicago, IL and moved to Cicero, IL where they raised their six children.
Phillip worked as an Ornamental Ironworker and was a 60 year member of Ornamental Ironworker's Local 63. Later in life he worked as a custodian for the Grayslake School District. Phillip was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry, IL.
Phillip is survived by his children, Christine (Gary) Wilburn, Marilynn Dobbs, Barry (Vicky) Beetschen, Barbara (Art) Weber, Karl (Barb) Beetschen; 13 grandchildren, James, Rick, Beverly, Mike, Barry Jr (Kelly), Jill, Katie, Marsha (Brad), Kelly (Randy), Charlie, Brooke, Augie and Amanda; 3 great-grandchildren, Dominic, Charli and Beck. In addition to Phillip's parents and siblings, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lucille "Mickey" on August 6, 1994, and grandchildren Erin Wilburn and Andrew Wilburn.
Visitation Thursday 4-8 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd, Gurnee. Closing the evening will be a military honors service to honor Phillip and his service to the country. Interment will be held at a later date.
