Richard John Pins

Richard is survived by his wife, Judy (Pauley) Pins; his children, Stephanie Pins Sackett and her husband Flint Sackett, Abby (Pins) Jones and her husband Brian Jones, and Jeff Pins and his wife Jordyn (Frelk) Pins; his siblings, Sue (Pins) Bettcher, John “Jack” Pins and Charles “Chuck” Pins; his grandchildren, Claire Sackett, Jadon Jones, Rachel Sackett, Leah Jones, Charles Pins and Blake Pins; and by his nieces and nephews, Melanie Pins, Addison Pins, Brett Koppes and Greg Koppes. He is preceded in death by his parents Val Pins and Helen (Donovan) Pins and his brother James “Jim” Pins.

Richard was born on January 11, 1947 in Dubuque, Iowa to Val Pins and Helen (Donovan) Pins. He served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He married Judy Pauley in August 1971, and between 1974 and 1978 they had three children. Richard and Judy moved away from Dubuque in 1987 and settled in the north suburbs of Chicago. Richard graduated from Kendall Culinary School in 1990 and worked as a dessert chef in Lake Forest, Illinois. His family will remember him as a loving and protective husband and father and a passionate follower of Jesus Christ.

A mass will be held for Richard at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Gurnee, IL at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 9, 2016. There will be a visitation at the church directly preceding the mass, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, and a luncheon to follow in the church’s meeting space. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Paul the Apostle Church at 6401 Gages Lake Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031. All donations will be given to the Men’s Legacy Group, which was such an important part of Richard’s life in the last couple of years.
