Born on June 10, 1941, in Parkdale, Arkansas, Rose’s life was a vibrant celebration of faith, family, and groundbreaking accomplishments. In her early years, she sang lead in a gospel quartet alongside her sisters and uncle John Somerset, performing throughout African-American churches in the region. Her heartfelt rendition of “Since I Met Jesus” became a treasured favorite.
In 1962–1963, Rose made history as the first African-American secretary hired at Johnson Outboard Marine. Her pioneering role reflected her determination and professionalism, paving the way for others to follow.
Rose shared forty loving years of marriage with William J. Uimari. Together they raised a devoted family: Adrienne Stiger of Kenosha, WI; Fabian (Bernadette) Stiger of Glenwood, IL; Jasper (Pam) Stiger of Madison, WI; Tricia Stiger of Oak Park, IL; and Isaac (Erica) Stiger of Whitewater, WI. She also embraced her adopted daughter Purple-Leania of Waukegan, IL; and stepson Jason Uimari of Zion, IL.
Her legacy lives on through fifteen grandchildren—Dymphia Stiger; Schic and Aaron Williams; Dwaine Blackwell; Kristin Ziegler of Arizona; Darius and Terry Jones; Tyrone, Crystal, Jasmine, and Andrew Stiger of Waukegan; Eric Johnson; Danielle and Kiara Stiger; Isaiah, Elianna, and Angel Stiger—sixteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her mother Lottie Loveann (Thomas) Walker; father Jasper Dean (Claydi) Thompson; sisters Lenora Hill and Margaret "Mattie" Vaughan; and brother Andrew K. Franklin Jr.
She found joy in needlepoint, puzzles, gardening, soap operas, and dining out. Her warmth and strength left an enduring legacy in the hearts of those who knew her.
We love you, Moma. Good night.
