Ruben A Martin

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9th from 4:00 PM until time of funeral service at 7:00 PM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N Cemetery Rd in Gurnee. Interment will be private.

Ruben was born in the Municipality of Subic, in the Province of Zambales, Philippines on October 19, 1957 to Frank Sr. and Filipina (Asuncion) Martin. In the mid-1980’s, he moved to America. He worked for Solo Cup for over 30 years, and later for Pactiv.

Growing up in the Philippines, Ruben enjoyed playing basketball with friends and family. As he got older, he spent much of time gardening and filling his home with plants, going on walks, and being with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the summer months, especially since he loved to grill. And avid Karaoke singer, he kept a notebook with all of his favorite songs for easy reference, from Journey to Queen and everything in between.

Ruben was the kind of person who would put everyone before himself. He loved to joke around and tried to keep everyone happy and in good spirits. He looked forward to walking his grandchildren to school and spoiling them with treats.

His memory and care will live on in all who were fortunate to know and love him.

He is survived by his children George (Pam) Martin, Shelly Martin, Ruby (Hans) Martin, Melanie (Brady) Rathke and Angelica Santa Ana; grandchildren Ameena, Liam, Jaylin, Henry, Kaeden, Amelia, and Kamilla; siblings Lolita Martin Lacbain, Nick Martin, Luz Martin Cadondon, Cely Martin, Roger Martin, Helen Martin, and Rosalie Martin Asio, and many beloved nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Sr and Filipina, wife Elma (Yu) Martin, son-in-law Krisjon Santa Ana, and siblings Frank Martin Jr. and Margie Martin Rogers.
