Sandra "Sandie" Meistad

Sandra “Sandie” Meistad, 67, of Gurnee, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026. A loving wife, mom, grandma, and friend, Sandie will be remembered for the extraordinary love and care she showed to those around her. She was always willing to go above and beyond for the people she loved and had a natural gift for making others feel special. She was also a devoted Cubs fan who rarely wanted to miss a game on TV.

Sandie was born on August 28, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois, to Walter and Elaine Schreiber. On September 25, 1982, she married Ronald “Jim” Meistad in Glenview, Illinois, and together they built a life filled with family, friendship, and many happy memories. They loved spending time together at their summer home on the lake in Lodi, WI, where they could slow down, boat, fish, and enjoy being near the water. At home, they took pride in their garden, and Sandie loved using the vegetables they grew to cook for the people she loved. Whether she was trying a new recipe at home or heading out to dinner with Jim, Sandie found happiness in simply being together.

Sandie was truly the best host. Her home was a gathering place where everyone was welcome and no one ever left hungry. She loved bringing people together, and there was always an endless spread of appetizers and room for one more person at the table. Taking care of others came naturally to her, and she had a special way of making people feel comforted, included, and loved. Few things brought her more joy than a house filled with the people she cared about, sharing food, stories, and laughter.

Beyond their home, Sandie carried that same warmth wherever she went. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Whether she was relaxing at the lake, visiting a favorite restaurant, or simply running errands around town, Sandie had a way of making friends everywhere.

Sandie is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ronald Meistad of Gurnee, Illinois; her daughter, Ashley Hoag and her husband, Matt, of Mequon, Wisconsin; her son, Ryan Meistad and his wife, Effie, of Antioch, Illinois; her beloved grandchildren, Derek, Dakota, and Davison; and her sister, Susan Polich. Her family was at the heart of her life and she deeply treasured the memories they shared together.

Sandie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elaine Schreiber, and her brother, Daniel Schreiber.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sandie’s life on Friday, September 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home, located at 305 N. Cemetery Road in Gurnee, Illinois. Guests are welcome to visit and spend time with the family beginning at 3 p.m. At 6 p.m., everyone will gather to share memories, stories, and reflections in celebration of Sandie’s life.
