A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17th from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 10:00 AM at North Prairie United Methodist Church, 5000 9th St, Winthrop Harbor IL 60096.
Sochun was born in Kowloon, Hong Kong, China on June 25, 1936, to Yuen Woo and Mo Szeto. While living in Hong Kong, she worked for many years as a seamstress. After several years of being long distance pen pals with William C. Chin, who also came to visit her during her time in Hong Kong. In 1964, she moved to Chicago, IL and the two were married.
Sochun’s greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family meant everything to her, including her church family and friends, and she kept in close contact with her relatives in Hong Kong.
While living in Chicago, Sochun attended Chinese Christian Union Church then moving to Christian Baptist Church located on the north side of Chicago. She also joined a health club at Swedish Covenant. Using public transportation, she went to the health club 3-4 days a week. It did not matter if the weather was hot, cold, or wet. She would exercise on the treadmill and then go swimming. She took swimming classes so she could take water aerobics classes and do laps. She had many friends in her senior swimming circle. She missed them when she moved to Zion IL. Upon moving to Zion IL, she became a member of North Prairie United Methodist Church, where she was a good and faithful servant.
Sochun found peace in the outdoors and enjoyed tending to her garden and growing Chinese vegetables. A seamstress by trade, she also enjoyed sewing as a hobby, and took up crocheting, knitting, and cross stitching quite easily.
Sochun is survived by her children Susan (Lawrence) Melvin, Doris (George) Bock, Linda (Bernardi) Vazquez, John (Vicky) Chin, and Betty Chin; grandchildren Anthony (Jane), Heather (Drew), Regina (Ed), Samantha (Jennifer), and David (Tiffany); great grandchildren Gavin, Rose, Atlas, Kyle (Mallory), Megan (Jake), Hailey, Lucy, Nora, and Alice, and many adored siblings and relatives in Hong Kong.
She was preceded by her husband, William C. Chin, her parents, and several siblings.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a monetary donation to North Prairie United Methodist Church, 5000 9th St, Winthrop Harbor IL 60096.
