Therese Martinez

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 8th, at 9:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 9:30 AM at Marsh Funeral Home, 305 N. Cemetery Rd, Gurnee, IL. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park, 33100 Hunt Club Rd in Libertyville, IL.

Therese was born on March 13, 1936, to Johann and Leontine (Mutschler) Schon in Romania. She came to America in September of 1956 in search of the American Dream. She worked in manufacturing and worked hard to raise her daughter, Carola, on her own. In her downtime, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting, making clothes for Carola and her dolls. She dreamed of owning her own home and traveling the United States, a dream that would later come true.

Therese met the love of her life, Raymond Martinez, when the two were working together. They married in 1978, and spent the next years of their life traveling, both in Europe and the United States. Therese loved to stop and see every monument she could. She enjoyed traveling the US because “you get to see how the country lives.”

Therese was a hard-working woman who accomplished every goal she set her mind to. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

She is survived by her daughter, Carola (the late Jeffrey) Spivey; granddaughters Alexandria Spivey and Stephanie Spivey; and many dear nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Johann and Leontine Schon; and her siblings Annette Brandl, Emma Brandl, Herbert Schon, Magdeline Bartjes, Johanna-Lowe Wolter, and Katherina Nachtigall.
