Alberta was born in Livingston County KY to parents Edward and Hattie (Borders) Reynolds on November 8, 1931. She married Bobby Joe Jackson on July 17, 1951 in Smithland KY Methodist Church. After their marriage, Alberta and Bobby Joe moved to IL living briefly in North Chicago before making their home in Waukegan. Since moving to Waukegan in the early 1960’s, Alberta was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, and through the years served on almost every committee including the committee for a new organ, the pastor search committee, and many others. She helped to organize the annual Chuck wagon dinner, craft bazaar and apple pie fundraisers for her church. She was also a longtime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Alberta loved to square dance with her husband Bob as a member of the Country Squares Dance club spending many Saturday nights dancing. For many years Alberta and her family were members of the Wooden Anchors Camping Club traveling across the country. In retirement, Alberta traveled extensively with a senior citizens group visiting Austria, Germany, Canada, as well as many places across the United States. As a young woman, Alberta worked for Bell + Howell and Elaine Powers Fitness. For most of her life, Alberta was a devoted mother to her 6 children, 18 grandchildren, as well as many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Alberta will be remembered for her love of her church and her family as well as her sense of humor and lifelong devotion to helping others.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bobby Joe, daughters Gloria (Joe) Kerr and Janis (Dave) Snyder, grandson Duane Kerr, granddaughter Savanah Jackson, sister Imogene Reid, and brother Lee Reynolds. She is survived by her daughters Vicki (Jim) Forde & Krista (Scott) Dalton, sons Michael (Kate) Jackson & Jon Jackson, grandchildren Shane, Carrie, Brad, Brian, Gabriel, Tabitha, Jeremiah, Debbie, Michell, Robyn, Derek, Courtney, Alex, Jacob, Ryanne, Christian, Noah, & Shayla as well as many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and sisters Ann Barrett & Sue Outland.
Visitation will be held from 10am until noon Saturday October 12 at Living Faith United Methodist church with a service to follow. A Short grave side service will be held at Warren Cemetery in Gurnee, IL following the church service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Alberta’s name to Living Faith United Methodist Church.
