My Tito is gone in peace, but I know he is in my heart and in yours. Thank you everyone for paying your respect on Friday, July 17 , or thinking about him at any other place and time. I am so glad to see that he made so many friends, many of whom I never knew before.

My companion freezer:  I will never forget all the inspiring and encouraging words from Dr. Nasjletti in my early-stage career. He was always generous and happy to help in giving priceless advice and comments on the drafts of my preliminary research data. When I received my first NIH R01 grant, he told me: “Stay in science, don’t give up.”  On the day he decided to retire, he came to my lab and gave me his freezer as a gift and said to me: “I am a lab ghost. I wish you success in research.”  The freezer is a cherished gift for me. I defrost this freezer annually and keep it running till now. I will keep it till the end of my career.
I was deeply saddened when I got the news. Thank you, Dr. Nasjletti, rest in peace.

Last night, I did something I'd never done before. I googled my dad.
The internet had this to say:

"Antioxidants condition pleiotropic vascular responses to exogenous H₂O₂..."

"...endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor..."

Then it politely asked if I'd like to Read More.
I thought that was very optimistic.
Because the truth is, I already knew the part I wanted to know.

The internet remembers the scientist.
I remember my dad.

I remember the man who drove me to college in Boston at three in the morning and somehow made me feel like I was doing him the favor. The man who met me at the train at any hour with a bag of Kit Kats waiting in the car. We'd split them on the ride home while trying to solve the world's problems, usually with the confidence of two people who had no business doing so. When I was nine, I suggested we invite every homeless person in the world to come live with us. He never laughed at the idea. He took it seriously because I did.

I remember Frank Sinatra. Paul Anka. The Music Man. The smell of Paco Rabanne when he reached for the radio.

I remember that he loved to skip.
So we skipped. Through Memphis. Through Boston. Through New York. Outside Lincoln Center we'd toss coins into the fountain, attend  opera, and laugh about how everybody always seemed to die of tuberculosis.
People listened when my dad spoke. Not because he needed to be the smartest person in the room, though he often was, but because he made people feel like they mattered. He knew how to listen without waiting for his turn to talk. He knew that kindness wasn't softness. It was attention. It was generosity. It was making room for another person.
The internet can tell you what he discovered.
It can't tell you what it felt like to be loved by him.
His papers changed the way medicine understands the body.
His life changed the way the people around him understood what it meant to be human. I think that's the work he was proudest of.
That's the part of him we'll carry forward.

Humor, wit, warmth, intimidating intellect, passionate investigator and educator. An impactful personality that strongly influenced my experience as a naïve graduate student back in the day. Common daily interactions with him… his infamous appearances at journal club… his cutting observations and questions… all left me a far, far better thinker than when I first stepped into that Department. Thank you, Dr. Nasjletti.

Dearest Kitty and family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Tito’s passing and my sincerest condolences go out to all of you during this difficult time.  The world lost a great scientist and friend in the purest of terms and you all lost the rock and anchor of your family. Tito’s memory will assuredly forever be your blessing!  Tito and I clashed in the early years, but frequently over time by phone and at yearly Council meetings, I came to appreciate how deeply he cared and how deeply committed he was to me and my growth, success, and lifelong happiness. Knowing that Tito was always just a phone call away during some of my most trying times, was truly invaluable and a touchstone of confidence to me as a young scientist - his faith in me, after seasons of doubt, was beyond measure. My wife and I shared many happy times with Tito and Kitty in New York, with conversations that stretched late into the afternoon and evening, and I will never forget the warmth with which he embraced Eugenia and our extended family. He challenged (and encouraged) me in ways that have shaped who I am, and I came to understand that behind his very high expectations was a genuine investment in my life both in academia and beyond.  His both tacit and expressed pride buoyed me on my way during the most turbulent times.  He was a devoted family man who showed me, by example, that in the end what truly matters is truth, health, family, and living with purpose. I  will be forever grateful for Tito’s great mentorship and will carry those lessons with me always.  My deepest condolences go out to all who loved and learned from Tito.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Dr. Nasjletti’s passing.

I had the privilege of spending four years under his guidance while pursuing my Ph.D. in Pharmacology. As a mentor, he set the highest standards for scientific rigor. He was meticulous, demanding, and uncompromising when it came to research, teaching us that excellence in science requires both discipline and integrity.

Beyond the laboratory, however, he was remarkably gentle, kind, and deeply caring. Whenever personal challenges arose, he always responded with warmth, understanding, and compassion. His sense of humor often brightened even the most difficult days.

Dr. Nasjletti was not only a giant in hypertension research but also an extraordinary mentor who shaped generations of scientists. I will always be grateful for his guidance, wisdom, and kindness. His influence on my career and life will remain with me forever.

I will always remember Alberto`s help upon arriving to New York Medical College from Madrid in the early 90s, from helping us to find a house to becoming integrated in a wholly new atmosphere in the laboratory. When I returned to Spain, I tried to carry with me his enthusiasm for research and learning, skills which I continue to cherish to the present. I have never much liked the term “pass away”, and less so in Alberto’s case – “pass on” is much more appropriate, for the spirit of this good doctor can never be truly gone. Alberto is surely just moving on to the next task. And to that I say, hasta la vista!

I am immensely saddened to learn of Tito's passing. He will always be my mentor and friend. He taught me the joy of discovery, the excitement of possibility, the wisdom that comes with failure, and the contentment and joy that comes from mentoring others in the pursuit of science and learning.  His confidence in me and his other students was rarely spoken but always felt. That support and encouragement spurred long hours, critical thinking, and perseverance. Whatever I am as a scientist and teacher is bound up in the environment that he fostered in his lab and our program and department. 
The New Years Eve parties that he and Kitty hosted and his amazing sangria are legendary. Those gatherings helped teach me that colleagues are more than coworkers. 
In the years since I graduated, he embraced me as a colleague and friend, always interested in my life and family. When our paths crossed (too infrequently), a warm hug was always followed by "How is my Greta?" (my daughter who fell in love with a joyful bear of a man and who's 4-year old drawing was taped to his office wall)
Basketball was "his" sport but I'm sure he is cheering Messi and Team Argentina to a world championship!
As a fellow Jew, I offer the traditional greeting of mourning: 
May Tito's memory be for a blessing for all his family and friends. May God comfort you among the mourners of Zion andJerusalem and the world.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Tito's passing and offer my sincerest condolences to his family.  Tito was a pillar of intelligence and scientific excellence at New York Medical College and everyone could appreciate his animated expressions and enthusiasm.  I learned a lot from him throughout my career but especially as a young faculty member when I was learning how to put together competitive grant applications.  As I continued to be funded our ongoing discussions helped me see additional avenues to explore. He really loved brainstorming and I could rely on him to be completely honest about what he thought was good and what needed to be improved. Tito earned the respect of many scientists in the arena of Hypertension research and was acknowledged with the highest honors in the field.  He supported my academic development and led by example.  His love for his family was second to none and I know that he will continue to be with you all every day.

It is with deep sadness that I learned about the passing of Dr. Alberto "Tito" Nasjletti. Tito was a brilliant scientist and an outstanding mentor to many younger scientists like me. Tito was always willing to provide sage career advice, elevate the level of a grant proposal or manuscript, all with kindness and grace. His contributions to the field of hypertension, as well as his lasting impact on a generation of scientists, will truly be missed. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends.

My most sincere condolences to Tito’s family.  Tito was an excellent scientist, teacher, and mentor to so many young scientists.  To me, he was a good friend and colleague who was always willing to offer his perspective and advice on issues of mutual concern.  He was very supportive of my efforts as graduate dean and I was and will always be grateful to him for that.  In the words of our mutual friend, Gabe Kaley, Tito was a mensch.

I am deeply saddened about the passing of one of our most respected colleague and mentor and may our prayers be with the family at this difficult time. I still member the day when he interviewed me for the faculty position at NYMC, I have heard an lot about Tito from my previous mentor Dr Guillermo Scicli, who was a dear friend of his before my visit.  Tito left me with a  truly respectful impression of his kindness and scientific greatness. We have had many conversations during my early career at NYMC. He has truly been a titan in his field and offered me countless mentorship and scientific guidance. I am deeply indebted to him of my research career. He will be truly missed for as long as many of us will live. His kindness, humor and firing personality will never fade away. Please accept my deepest condolences!

Dear Norma and Family. I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dearest friend Tito, whom I have known for 56 years. Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Tito. I know how close you two were, and I cannot imagine the depth of your grief right now. May God Almighty rest his soul in peace, and his memory be a blessing.
 I met you in Milwaukee in 1972 when Tito joined the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and we moved together in Memphis with Dr. McGiff in 1975. I have great memories of him, you, and your children, who were born in Memphis, TN, and Gaby was a close friend of my daughter. You lived close to my house in Memphis, and we shared driving on alternative days to work for about 10 years until he left Memphis to join Dr. McGiff at the Medical College in Valhalla, New York. Dr. McGiff introduced me to the area of Prostaglandins. 
I kept in close contact with you all over the years and visited New York a couple of times. Also, I shared a room with him at scientific meetings for more than 30 years. He had enormous energy, high enthusiasm, curiosity, critical thinking, and a drive for scientific research. He had a great impact on the development of the scientific careers of many students, fellows, and junior faculty, who are now successful scientists and teachers at many academic and biomedical institutions. He would often wake up in the middle of the night and start discussing some new experiments or interpretations of our experimental data. I learned a lot from him, and I am highly indebted to him. He introduced me to the renin-angiotensin system, provided input on writing my first NIH grant, which is now in its 53rd year, and we published several papers together. 
I hope you will find moments of peace amidst the grief. Please give me a call anytime you would like to share Tito’s memories.

I have 3 tattoos on my arm, no more and no less – (I won’t be buried in a Jewish cemetery, sue me:) ). I have Baruch in Hebrew letters on my tricep ,representing mom’s side of the family and my Hebrew name. A wave on my shoulder represents life’s ups and downs. The third tattoo is perhaps the most special to me. This tattoo represents my role model. 

22 years ago, Grandpapa was at a medical conference in Washington D.C. Nearing the end of the conference, he received a phone call that he wasn’t expecting for another 10 weeks. The birth of his first grandson. So he drove 90 MPH down I-95 to Mount Sinai Hospital. 

I’ve heard that story hundreds of times. Ironic, isn’t it. He drove as fast as he could from DC to Manhattan to witness my birth, and 22 years later, my mom and I sped from Jersey City to Old Tappan so I could talk to him one last time, hooked to a breathing tube, with each breath filled with phlegm and mucous from the morphine entering his body. 

When I was 13 years old, I had a school project due. The assignment was to complete a 10 minute interview of your greatest influence in life. It could’ve been anyone, a teacher, parent, sibling. 
I chose my Grandpapa. 

A.)  How will you be remembered when you’re gone? 
	I will be remembered through you, and your brother. You carry the Nasjletti name. You should be proud of that. 
B.) How would you describe me to someone who has not met me? 
 	You are very special to me because you are my 1st grandchild. That comes with responsibility. I have high hopes for you, Pichon. 
I see someone that’s handsome and intelligent. 
Someday I hope you’ll be president of the United States.  – You won’t be there to witness that. 
C.) What do I mean to you?
The most important thing in my life is my family and my friends. You are very special to me because you are my oldest grandson and I always see in you to become, eventually, the leader of the family. After I am not on this earth it will be up to you, your brother and your fath

Tito is gone.
I'm sure he's gone to speak about one of his many scientific works, which left his mark on science and life.
His tenacity and sacrifice taught us that almost nothing is impossible when you live with contagious and unwavering passion.
My childhood memories in San Juan come back to me again and again, not with much clarity, but always linked to our family bond, to his mother (my Tía Kalita) and his father, Tio Mario.
The path from San Juan to the pantheon of Hypertension Specialists in the world, traveled with determination, would not have been possible without his beloved Kitty, Alex, Gabby, and grandchildren. 
I admired him in silence, and I passed on that admiration and his courage, to my children (also immigrants) as living proof of dedication to working for others.
He is at peace.
I will greatly miss him calling me "hermano" when we spoke.

They say you don’t get to choose your in-laws, but if I could have, I would have chosen Tito every single time.

I was blessed to have the most incredible father-in-law. I often joked that I was his favorite daughter-in-law—but since I was his one and only, I wore that title proudly.

From the moment I became part of the Nasjletti family, Tito made me feel like I truly belonged. He welcomed me with kindness, love, and open arms, and over the years, he became so much more than my father-in-law. He became a dear friend.

One of the greatest gifts we shared was our love of music. Throughout the years, we sang together often. Those moments brought us so much joy, and they are memories I will treasure forever. Every time I hear those songs, I will think of him.

To the world, he was Dr. Alberto Nasjletti—a brilliant physician and scientist. To me, he was a man of incredible warmth, generosity, wisdom, and humility. He loved his family deeply and always made each of us feel special.

Tito, thank you for welcoming me into your family, for believing in me, and for loving me as your own. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to be your one and only daughter-in-law.

We will miss you beyond words, but we will carry your love, your example, and yes, your music, in our hearts forever.

News of the departure of Alberto Nasjletti was heart wrenching – a dear friend for more than 30 years, an invaluable enthusiastic collaborator, a wise adviser, a supporter one can always rely upon, and a charming person full of energy, humor, common sense and philosophical acumen. The void in my heart is as big as big a Man he was. For decades Tito has been the linchpin of the College, its medical community, and a major attractor of the best and brightest students. His leadership in College life, from interdepartmental issues to global positioning as the Editor-in-Chief of Ameriican Journal of Physiology has lifted the College to international heights. He was a major force, at that remaining a humble Man with open office doors and open heart for serving others. I’ve been privileged to be one of his friends, missing him, and remembering him warmly. A tree in memory of Alberto will be planted in Israel.

I am terribly saddened to hear this news. 
Tito was an extraordinary person and scientist. I interacted with him for so many years, but especially when I became Vice-Chair and Chair Elect of the Hypertension Council of AHA in 2000, and he was the Chair. It was the year of 9/11, and we collaborated to make sure the Council meeting took place right after the terrible events of that awful day. We continued working closely for two years, and for many years after that remained close friends.
I am heartbroken to learn this news.
