Charna Katzman

January 17th, 1931 to September 7th, 2026

Charna was born to Edith and David Lytell in Boston, MA and grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts with her brother Jerry. She later married Merle Katzman and together they settled in Tenafly, NJ where they raised their four children and lived for 60 years. Charna was a loving, devoted and endlessly supportive mother who felt her children could do no wrong. Watching her family grow brought her tremendous happiness - she was a special “Nana” to 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Charna also had a passion for the arts, and was an excellent painter. For many years she traveled to the Students Art League on 57th Street in Manhattan where she would paint in her group and enjoyed expressing herself through her artwork. Merle and Charna would spend their summers in Westbrook, CT where they liked spending time with friends they made in their beach community. Charna was an avid tennis player and enjoyed talking walks along the beach and sitting with friends in the late afternoon.

Charna is Survived by her children:

Beth Kreitman (Brett), Amy Shirvan (Mark), Sam Katzman (Michelle), and

Robert Katzman (Anna). And by 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

A Committal Service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave, West Hartford, CT 06107 on September 10, 2026 at 12:00 PM.
