Doris J., 89, of Tenafly, NJ, passed away Sept. 2. A brilliant, warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister with tremendous wit and wisdom, boundless creativity and exquisite taste. A Madison Avenue pioneer: the first woman director of print traffic at Benton & Bowles. Later at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons she was the pharmacology course administrator and executive editor. Born in Brooklyn, the younger daughter of George Jaffe and Rose Natelson Jaffe. Graduated from Girls Commercial High School, then earned a B.A. in English and speech at Brooklyn College. She credited her drama/speech professor, Joseph H. “Skip” Davidson, with helping her develop the confidence that won her a lifetime of friends and admirers. Member of the Advertising Women of New York and a former president of the American Technion Society’s Women’s Division, Tenafly chapter. Predeceased by her husband Melvin K. Allen. Survived by daughters Jane E. Allen of Los Angeles and Claudia H. Allen (Philip C. Stahl) of Chicago; beloved grandchildren, Benjamin and Isabel Stahl of Chicago; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral services 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gutterman and Musicant, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ, with burial at Mount Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
