March 7, 1927 – February 1, 2019
Emmy Tyras, 91, of Hackensack, NJ passed away on February 1, 2019 in Ridgewood NJ.
Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Emmy was a longtime resident of the upper West side of NYC, then River Edge NJ and for the last 20 years, of Hackensack NJ.
Originally a trained hairdresser, Emmy worked in her father’s salon in Prague, then in New York City with Park Avenue clientele. After moving to River Edge, she focused on caring for her family.
She enjoyed a good game of scrabble, playing cards and gardening. Other favorite pastimes would include the Metropolitan Opera, having dinner with friends, her daily summer swim in our backyard pool and travelling around the world.
The annual family vacations to Saint Maarten over the Christmas holidays as well as the time her family spent at the “Four Acres” summer house, held some of her fondest memories.
She was predeceased by her loving husband; Paul F. Tyras, her life’s companion for over 65 years, whom she married at the Old Town Hall, in Prague, Czechoslovakia. They escaped from Czechoslovakia when the Communists seized power and moved to Israel where they spent a few difficult years before coming USA in 1956. They travelled the world together visiting countless countries and enjoying long ocean cruises. She could always be found tending to her beloved backyard garden, where she would spend countless hours. After which she would go for a swim in her pool. Her garden and her home in River Edge were the center of her universe and sanctuary for her family.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving son Peter Tyras and his wife; Betsy and their children; Julia and Sarah of Oradell, NJ. Her loving and caring daughter; Lori Muller and her husband Scott, and their children; Alec and Camryn of Ridgewood, NJ. She will also be missed by many friends she shared joys with during her life’s journey.
Mom, your life has been a blessing to us all. May you now be blessed with everlasting peace.
