

Irwin L. Brownstein of Teaneck, beloved husband and brother, loving father and uncle, doting grandfather, died June 27 at the age of 84. Proud son of the Bronx, he was born May 26, 1933 to Albert and Lottie Brownstein. A lifelong learner and educator, he married the love of his life, the former Evalyn Levy, December 22, 1957. Director of Student Life at City College of New York and teacher at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, he was artistic, endlessly creative, and charmed everyone he met with a warm smile and twinkle in his eye, even to the end. A true Renaissance man, he loved languages and was passionate about nature.
An active civic participant, he was past president of Congregation Beth Am in Teaneck, founder of Teaneck Swim Club, and member of Temple Sinai in Tenafly.
He is survived by his wife Evalyn, daughter Joy (David Chalfin), son Mark (Johanna Ginsberg) and grandchildren Ali, Harry, Ezra, and Amy.
The family is grateful for the kindness and attentive care he received at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh.
