My belated condolences to Jack's family and friends.  Jack and I were very close friends as teenagers in Brighton, MA.  Sharing a love (obsession perhaps) with basketball, we played together for several years at the Brookline-Brighton-Newton JCC on both the traveling team and the Spartans, a club team.   Jack was exactly 2 weeks older than I--our Bar Mitzvahs were very close to each other at Temple Bnai Moshe.   We shared a zillion other fun times from 1959 to about 1967, when we shared an apartment with a third musketeer near Northeastern University, which we both attended.
As many on here have commented while honoring Jack's memory, he was always very full of life and humor, even from a very young age.  Again my condolences to all who loved him and crossed paths with him.

Good morning Jack. We’ve just returned from your unveiling and shiva. It was so great to see Sue, Cara, Henry and Izzy again and to share memories of you with family and friends. We miss you, but rest assured that your dynamic spirit was alive and well and felt by everybody. Your legacy carries on. All Hail Northeastern! Your college crew won’t be the same without you.

Missing you , Jack.  The town is going to memorialize you and I couldn’t think of a man more deserving. We will always keep you in our minds.

As the Superintendent of Schools in Northern Valley, I had the honor of being Izzy and Henry's Superintendent.  They were and are fabulous students and kids.  Then I met Jack and Susan, and I immediately understood why.  This is a special family, wonderful parents, and wonderful students who all are terrific people.  It is my privilege to have known and know all of them, and Jack became a very special friend.  I would do anything for any of them, and truly, having known Jack, he was their leader and the terrific family is a tribute to him.  I will miss my friend, Jack, very much.  But I also know Susan, Henry and Izzy, and by a longer distance, Cara, and I know they will carry on.  All of the love and support of my family and me  to them.


I met Jackie when he and his family moved to Brighton around 1960. Although he was 2 years older than I, we shared many, many times I will always remember: Temple Bnai Moshe and most notably playing basketball and hanging around the JCC.  His family eventually moved to my street, Lanark Road and Jack continued his adventures. Although we hadn’t kept in touch,  I am saddened by his passing. I will always have a smile on my face when I think of Jackie. RIP

I am very sorry for your loss. Jack was a passionate individual who was relentlessly positive in his approach to life; we shared many great times and "unusual" experiences. 
None of you know me, but my history with Jack goes back to the mid 70's when we met at the "then" Tennis Industry Show.

We went to dinner, and when I ordered fish,  he was  intrigued by my  being "kosher", and it led to a very broad discussion on background and life, and we became good friends. He almost instantly christened me"MAAHH-Kee Boy!", a moniker with which he greeted me in his distinct, Brookline accent, EVERY time we spoke from then on. Over the next 25 years we spent many  "off-hours" together at different Trade Shows. Dining out and parties, were a given, and Jack's sense of humor and personality were on full display: people of all different backgrounds liked him because his enthusiasm was sincere, and his delivery was so unique.
In 1979  we "almost" (ha ha) became "wealthy", when the #1 mall in the country, Paramus Park in Paramus, N.J.  embraced our new retail monogramming kiosque idea Embroidomat.
Jack ran the first test at Christmas, and the Mall Owners wanted us to expand to their other top locations around the country. We actually found a business duo to commit the necessary funds, BUT shortly before the planned closing, one suffered a medical crisis, and the opportunity was lost..

My most vivid memory of Jack remains from that endeavor. In  January 1980,  I was driving with Jack, in a U Haul truck on Route 3 East, toward the Lincoln Tunnel. We were returning  forty, large glass jewelry display cases that we had rented to construct our temporary kiosque.
All of a sudden, the truck went out of control; crashed into the side wall; and tumbled onto its right side with a HUGE  smashing sound. I was in my seat belt, looking down at Jack. He said  
"You okay,  "Mahkee Boy?" I nodded, and we both started laughing hysterically.
 I'll miss you, Jack.

 

Thank you all for your beautiful and kind words. Our family is heartbroken, but the love and support of so many friends, neighbors and family is so meaningful and offers comfort during this most difficult time.

Words cannot express how sorry we are. We have lived in Haworth for over 20 years and have known the Ferber's for most of that time.  Jack was intelligent, witty and funny. He always had a smile on his face and everyone who knew him liked him.  He loved his family so much- may they use those wonderful memories of him to help them through the most impossible of times. 

Jack was a great guy. When we moved to Haworth and met him as one of the first people we met, his warmth and welcome was one of the things Janet and I specifically mentioned that night we came home. We knew we moved to the right place after meeting the Ferbers. 
Jack was always a mensch and always made me feel like I was ‘the one ‘.  That’s a very awesome trait I will never forget about him. 
I’m miss seeing him at Haworth Events and our family sends it’s love and condolences to the entire Ferber family. Your community is your family and we will not let someone like Jack ever be forgotten here in Haworth and the Cohen home. Thank you , Jack. Your friendship will always shine.  


At a loss for words. Grew up with Jack and have so many memories, from the neighborhood, through school, college and the years beyond. Great and fun filled man. He loved his family, friends and life.  He will be missed. Our deepest sympathy.

I was very moved at the funeral to hear how loved he was and what a special person he was. I do recall him being a bit of at personality when we spent those long shabbat afternoons in the house. 

I live in Israel so I can't stay up till 1 am to do a virtual shiva visit, since we are 7 hours ahead of you, but my thoughts and condolences are with you.

We say - -Min Hasahmaim tnuchamu-- May you be consoled from the heavens above.  


I have had the honor of knowing Jack since the first day of my job at Modern almost 6 years ago. Since then we became good friends. His kindness and thoughtfulness radiated through the room, and he was there for everyone no matter what the circumstances. His helpful and genuine nature brightened our day, and his great sense of humor made us all of laugh to the fullest  

His presence used to light up our office room. Everyday we would all wait for him to come to the office to cheer us up, and if he didn’t we would start worry. Within the past six years he had became like family. 
We grieve the lost of our dearest friend , well-wisher and advisor. How fortunate are we to have had the pleasure of knowing him. 

We know that he, our guardian angel, is looking over us with his unforgettable smile, giving us the strength we need to get through this together. 

The memories he had gifted us will give us the strength we need to get through the days we miss him the most. May his soul Rest In Peace.

Jack, your enthusiasm for life was contagious and inspiring. I will never forget you—I have babysat/nannied many kids, but nannying for Iz & Henry are some of my fondest memories! Having you come in and out of the house while I was helping the kids with homework, or while we were eating (our favorite thing to do) was great—every time you came in, there was a story to tell and I HAD to listen! There were some great ones! I’ll never forget when you walked in the house one day and said “I got into a really bad car accident on my way back home and my car is totaled, but I’m fine!” Just like that, you were “fine!” And you were! You took life by the horns and you were full of life and love! You also always treated me like I was part of your family and I am forever grateful for that. Dan will never forget when you grilled him for your first time meeting him to make sure he treated me well—I’m pretty sure Iz grilled him too haha! But then, you two were laughing up a storm! You all welcomed him with open arms and I am also so grateful for that—we were just babies! And now look at us, we HAVE a baby!! We wish you got the chance to meet Myla. You both would have made each other laugh hysterically, I just know it! Watch down on us all, and may you rest in the sweetest peace. Xo 

I've only known Jack for two years at my time working at Modern. He was truly a character and always took over the room when he walked in. He had a great sense of humor and the wit of a 20 year old.  Always something to say, even if no one agreed he was firm in his beliefs. I truly respected that about him, and his tenacity and overall kindness he showed to others. Even though I was the newest member at work, he treated me like family and would surprise us with gifts and treats. Whenever I said I liked something, he would always come back with more when he could. 
Not many people I have met that have shown me the same unconditional kindness as Jack. I'll never forget the car rides he gave me after work, even when I could see he was tired too.. 
One of our inside jokes was that when people talk about you and you walk into the room, they say you live 100 years. 
Jack would always walk in whenever we mentioned his name. I really wish our little joke was true now..
Rest easy Jack, you'll be sorely missed.

Two years ago, Heather mentioned to Jack how much I liked the new 5K shirts that he provided.  EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. that I saw Jack thereafter he’d pull me in with a big hug and a smile and say something like “you like those shirts, huh??  You want more? I got more!”   He’d then pull me in closer and whisper in a vaguely mobsterish voice “wait until you see what I do next year!”  Followed by a huge belly laugh and back slap.   I loved it.  Needless to say, I now have 4 of each shirt and pretty much don’t exercise in anything else.  Jack was the best kind of character and will be sorely missed.  RIP buddy. 

We are so saddened to hear about Jack’s passing.  I always remember him making us laugh during  Rec basketball and soccer games.  He was always smiling and loved telling  his jokes. What can I say about Jack?  I've known him since I was young man at the age of 21 and he was one of the first customers I ever had the pleasure dealing with.  As we grew older, we got closer and had so many similarities from sports to everything else.  You will forever be missed and I am heartbroken that I didn't even get to say goodbye to you.  Thanks for everything Jack!  I know you are looking down on us and smiling!  Rest in Peace...

I am so sorry to hear of Jacks passing. He help me a lot in  my business to find new product and get contacted new suppliers.  Sending deepest condolences to his entire family.

Jack could light up any room he walked into and always put a smile on everyone's face.  He will be missed greatly.

The smile. The humor. The sincerity. To see Jack was to have your day brightened. Jack had an opinion...always. But he was not a know-it-all. He was smart. If you had a joy to share, he was just as happy as you. If you had a concern, he listened. And when I say he listened, he really listened. You could tell he was taking in your words, not waiting for you to finish so he could reply. There was always that delay as he considered what you had said. Then he would offer advice, but only if he felt it was needed. 
I liked Jack. Everyone did. What greater gift could a man ask for? This world is diminished by his loss. At least my world is.

Jack literally was one of a kind. An endless smile, and always with a joke. I first met Jack on a night out with some of the guys. I remember thinking “Who is this old guy?”. How wrong I was. Jack was energetic, playful and made me laugh constantly. When I lost my job, Jack called me to invite me to lunch. I was surprised because at the time, I didn’t know him terribly well. Foster village, Pastrami & Knishes - shocker. Generous, giving, compassionate - I will never forget that act of kindness and so many others. The sadness of his passing is tempered only by the realization that I was lucky enough to have met him. Rest easy my friend, Jeff

Jack was funny, loving and kind. I first got to know him when he designed the sweatshirts and tees for both my kids b’nai mitzvahs and working with him was never dull! We had an instant connection and he and Susan were invited to both events. Jack danced with my mom which she will never forget. Her words verbatim were,  “Who is that handsome and charming man? His wife is a lucky woman”
Jack was that and more. I’ll miss you Jack. Heaven just got another angel. Love you- Kari

I am so sorry to hear of Jacks  passing. He always had a smile whenever we saw each other, and he will be surely missed in our small town. Sending deepest condolences to his entire family. 

We were simply shocked to hear of Jack's passing yesterday. He was so young at  heart and full of life, who would have expected it? Certainly not us. We've been gathering photos and pouring over our albums remembering all the grand times with Jack, Susan and family. From our days at Northeastern University to our 50th NU Anniversary and beyond, we've been so priviledged to have the Ferbers as part of our life. So many precious memories: Tanglewood, the Inn at Laurel Lake, visits to Cape Cod, times with Marty & Sue Rubin, Jack's 60th at New York's Red Rock Annex. He was so proud of winning the intramural basketball championship at Northeastern, which provided much fodder for laughter over the years when Jack was with his college crew. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

We are so saddened to hear this terrible news.  Jack was a great person and was always friendly and helpful in so many causes.  I remember how passionate he was about doing fundraising for the music departments, and he always greeted you with a huge, enthusiastic smile.  Our hearts go out to the entire Ferber family.  He will be missed so much.

I was so saddened to hear the news of Jack’s passing today. He always had something nice to say when I would see him at HPS;  we always had a good laugh as he loved to say he was probably the oldest dad to register his children for Kindergarten. He loved his family! I will miss him.

I was lucky to meet Mr. Ferber in 2011 when he made t-shirts for a Haworth Public School music program fundraiser led by a group of middle schoolers.  Whenever I think of this fundraiser, I am reminded of him and the way that he wholeheartedly jumped into helping us and took up the cause as his own.

Those middle schoolers will never forget the lessons of generosity and determination that he taught us.

He is one of those people that always had a smile, words of encouragement and you left his company feeling better.  That’s a rare gift.  Seeing Jack was a treat.  Haworth will be a little dimmer without Jack.

I was truly saddened to hear of Jack's passing. Although we didn't see each other often I can tell you that every encounter was a joyous occasion!  We sparred with each other over our love for our favorite teams - Jack's Red Sox and my Yankees. We agreed to disagree, but we always ended the debate as friends. He was a force of nature and always had a kind word and a smile. Jack will truly be missed. He was such a good guy.  My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.
