

The world has lost a giant. Dr. Jack G. Rabinowitz passed away peacefully the morning of Feb 9th 2025 surrounded by his family. He was 97 years old. Prolific in life and his career he is leaving quite a legacy. Son of Ukrainian immigrants he was first generation American, Born in Monticello NY he was raised during the Great Depression in Brooklyn. A love of knowledge and music carried him through and after serving time in the Army he paid his way through UCLA by playing poker and then used the GI Bill to study medicine in Bern, Switzerland. He quickly was recognized for his brilliance and skill and became the youngest Chairman of Radiology in the country. He published extensively as well as authored textbooks. He was the Chairman at 4 different University Hospitals and at the pinnacle of his career he was the Professor and Chairman of Radiology at The Mount Sinai School of medicine. He was a mentor and father figure for many generations of radiology residents, and he continued to teach until the age of 93, and he only stopped because Covid forced him to stay home. When asked, “Why don’t you retire?” He always responded, “Because this isn’t work.” Not only did he teach and work til his late years, but he was forever the pianist as well. He was part of a talented group of physicians who together took lessons and performed. Known for his lovely smile and his sense of humor, he will be missed by many. He is survived by Rica Rabinowitz, his wife of 52 years as well as his children Antoine, Anne, Pierre, Ron and Tal Rabinowitz and also by 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
