Janet Lipsky (nee Heller) of the Township of Washington (formerly of Bergenfield), passed away Wednesday, May 2, surrounded by her family. Janet had a full and extended life reaching her 93rd Birthday.
Our wonderful Janet, or “Nanny" as she was known, is survived by daughter Joyce Lipsky Santana of Township of Washington, son, Ian David Lipsky and daughter-in-law Cheryl Weinberg Lipsky, of Corte Madera, CA, cherished grandchildren Sarah Santana Evans, grandson-in-law Samuel Evans, grandson Ethan Lipsky and most lovingly her great granddaughter Elizabeth Evans. She also remained particularly close with Gil, Sarah's father and was lovingly cared for by “her Cindy”.
Janet was an elementary school teacher at Roberge Elementary School, Rivervale. She was an excellent cook and talented artist. A beautiful woman who loved to entertain, especially during holidays for family and friends at her backyard pool or favorite restaurant. Her love of travel took her across the globe. Her passionate cruising adventures started in the 60’s. She loved sailing on some of the great ocean liners, her favorite being the S.S. United States. Some of her fondest memories were dressing elegantly on formal nights, meeting the crew, dancing and judging contests. She loved to host Bon Voyage parties for friends at a time when visitors could board the ship until the sound of “all ashore going ashore” was sounded.
Janet loved games and often surprised us at how “with it” she was, even in her 90’s! She was a die-hard Mets fan, taking notes and keeping score while watching games and yelling at the TV to root on her favorite team. The day she passed, the Mets won and we believe she is now “safe at home.”
Nanny’s greatest joy was spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She loved bonding with them through painting, reading, and traveling, and always with a bright smile.
Janet was a good friend and kind neighbor to many. She will be missed and treasured.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for children.
A funeral service will be held at 1:15 PM on Sunday, May 5 2024 at the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ.
Interment will follow at the Beth El Cemetery immediately after the chapel service concludes..
