Dr. Melvin A. Rand

Rand, Dr. Melvin A. of Englewood Cliffs, NJ died on August 31st at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Daryl Margot Harrison of 49 years. Devoted father of David and Jason. Brother of Hannah Rand Kurlantzick. Funeral service will be held 1:15pm on Tuesday, September 4th at the Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 800-522-0588. Entombment will follow at the Sanctuary of Abraham & Sarah, Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, NJ.

Dr. Melvin Rand was a distinguished forensic and clinical psychologist who had been practicing since 1968. His education and training provided him with advanced specialization in both medical and clinical aspects of psychology. During his forty-three year career, he served as a psychology consultant to Rahway State Prison, a school psychologist and a clinical practitioner specializing in forensics. Most recently, he was affiliated with the Bergen County, New Jersey Probation Department and conducted a private practice in Northern New Jersey.

Dr. Rand held membership in the American Psychological Association, the New Jersey Psychological Association and the New Jersey Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He was a certified school psychologist, a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified hypnotist. He held a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties in sexual abuse and was Board Certified in Forensic Medicine. He was certified by the American Red Cross in Disaster Mental Health Services and had received certification in critical incident treatment.

He was a graduate of Monmouth University, received a Master’s degree in psychology from Long Island University and a PhD in social psychology from the University of Oklahoma.
