Mildred Spitz died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 19, after celebrating 101 years of an active life. She was a Teaneck resident and a member of the Teaneck Jewish Community Center since 1950. She was a participant in the Center choir during the 1950’s and 1960’s under the direction of Harry Coopersmith.
Born in Paterson to Gertrude and Benjamin Kaplan, she attended Central High School. Mildred became an elementary school teacher after graduating from college, Paterson Normal School, in 1932, and taught in the Teaneck school system for many years.
Mildred married Albert Spitz of Passaic in 1935 and together they raised two children, Marjorie Graham of Manhattan and Henry Spitz of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mildred’s legacy will be remembered and honored by her children, four grand children and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will take place at 2:00 PM Wednesday 20 January at Gutterman & Musicant, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, New Jersey.
