Rosalie Miller, 86, passed away on June 10th. Beloved wife of the late Jack Miller, and supportive mother to Robyn Hensel and Mark Miller. Proud grandmother to Sam, Joel, Danny Hensel, Ariel, Nomi and Solomon Miller, and great-grandmother to Ruben. She was the daughter of Sam and Yolan Josovitz.
The beneficiary of no shortage of miracles, Rosalie was born in Bratislava, then-Czechoslovakia in 1935, and hid during the Holocaust with family in the attic of a vinegar factory for months until liberated. She settled in the Bronx in 1948, later becoming part of the first class of women to enter the City College of New York. She taught middle school science for 30 years in the South Bronx.
Another miracle befell her when she met Jack, her husband of more than four decades. He tried, and failed, to interest her in the Yankees, the Giants and music. Instead, she loved to read and watch movies. She had a will of iron, a fierce devotion to her family, and a strong belief that anything was possible.
The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to The Shoah Foundation or Doctors Without Borders in Rosalie's memory.
There will be a chapel service at 1:00 PM Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
A committal service for Rosalie will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.guttermanandmusicant.com for the Miller family.
