Rose Reizbaum, mother, grandmother, great grandmother extraordinaire, passed away peacefully in her home in Forest Hills, Queens, NY, on November 22, 2023, with her daughters by her side. She was 105 years old.
Rose was born in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland on July 2, 1918. Her journey from there to Forest Hills, Queens, in 1963, cannot be captured properly on this page. A survivor of the Holocaust, Rose was given passage to the United States after spending 5 years in a displaced person camp near Munich in Germany. She first settled with her husband Max Reizbaum and daughter Toby in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1951, where a second child, Marilyn, was born. She then moved with her family to Forest Hills. In Omaha, Rose had worked as a seamstress alongside her husband, who was a tailor. In New York, she worked as a diamond sorter. In so many ways important to life and even after so much hardship, Rose knew how to piece things together and to sort the wheat from the chaff.
She was beloved by many for her strength, her ingenuity, her style, her tenacity. We miss her.
