Sandra Ann Kissler passed away Saturday, August 15th in New Jersey at the age of 90 from Alzheimer’s.
Sandy lived a full and prosperous life. She lived in several places in the tri-state area including Forest Hills, Demarest and Englewood NJ, New York City, and summers in East Hampton NY. Married in 1955, Sandra and Joel have three sons, Bruce, Doug and Glenn. With the early passing of Sandy’s sister Judy, Sandy embraced her sister’s son Jason as one of her own. The boys turned into men that made her proud, following in her example of aiming high and working hard to achieve their best lives.
Sandra went on to marry Charlie Barron and then Jerry Kissler; each marriage was fulfilling and added adventures, family and joy to her life. She went on to spend many years with Mort Weinstein, where their love of the arts and extensive friend groups brought her happiness.
Sandy had an enormous network of friends, from summer camp to NJ, East Hampton, the city, and more! Many of her friends called her by her childhood nickname, Cookie. Cookie kept in touch throughout the ages, in fact, with the advent of the cell phone, hers never stopped ringing.
Sandy was a well-regarded Interior Designer and with her business partner and friend Myrna Shanky, established their business Tanner-Shanky Interiors. They successfully built a business doing what they loved, making homes stylish and beautiful. Sandy also was an active volunteer, a Board member and a contributor to Hackensack Hospital. As part of her involvement, she created a space for visiting family to “take a break”; today there is a shop at the hospital which bears her name in recognition of her work.
Everyone who knew Sandy admired her taste and sense of style. She was a fashion icon, rarely wearing the same outfit twice (or so it seemed!). She was a big supporter of the arts and many a craft creator was fortunate for her devotion to their sculptures and teapots. Sandy was a patron of the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in NYC and her collection was featured there. Last, she was devoted to her season tickets to the opera and ballet, as well as attending all of Broadway’s finest offerings.
Sandy adored and was adored by her grandchildren: Max, Lauren, Brooke, Esther, Russell, Margo and Becky. Also considered as her grandchildren are her great-nephew Harrison and great-niece Fiona. She exposed them to her favorite things like the ballet, museums and opera, took them on trips to faraway places, entertained them at holiday gatherings and shared her East Hampton beach house with them. She was the Nana that dreams are made of! Sandy also embraced her daughters-in-law, Lynne, Barbara, Milanie and Wendy, who all admired her style and grace.
A Funeral Service will be held at Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601, US, on August 24, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.
